After watching a movie with a gay character in it, your eleven-year-old son asks you: “How do you know if you’re gay?”
A question like that can simply mean that your son is curious, or it could show you that he is confused about himself. Keeping that in mind, be as open and positive as possible when answering his question.
“When growing up, people often question their sexuality. It can quite often happen that a teenager has a crush on someone of the same sex, but it doesn’t always mean they’re gay.”
“Sometimes these feelings simply stem from admiration and lessen with time, and sometimes they can be a sign of sexual orientation. Talking about things can sometimes help people who are feeling confused about it.”
